Ricky Martin has come out to say he’s gay. The singer, who had avoided questions about his orientation for years, credited his twin sons Matteo and Valentino — who’ll be 2 in August and were born via surrogate — with giving him the courage to go public with the news.
“To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids were born with,” Martin writes.
If you are heterosexual, when did you come out to your family and friends? And was it a big deal? Did you find yourself being discriminated against?
In a world where everybody is assumed to heterosexual unless other stated, homosexuals are and still are discriminated (thought it shouldn’t be), I applaud his courage and honesty in coming forward and making a stand for who he is.
