My ‘Why’ in Creating a Women Support Circle

Posted On: October 22, 2019

When I was going through my divorce, the last thing I wanted to do was go into circle with other women going through the same thing because I did not view what I was going through as same-same as others. I didn’t want to be surrounded by more pain, negativity, fears, drama, and stories. I didn’t want pity, being told what I should have done, or what I could do. I was already overwhelmed, suffocating, and barely keeping myself afloat.

This is why people can be resistant to go to support group of people who seem to be like them e.g. divorce, single parents, assault etc. Yet there are of course others who can find support, solace, and solidarity in support groups. We are individuals, and there is no one size fits all.

This is why when I met one person recently who shared she couldn’t and wouldn’t go to a divorce support group, but preferred a women support group – I got it immediately. She touched and affected me more than she would ever know. I was her. This is why I felt compelled to and decided to spring into action to a Women Support Circle (monthly for a start, and hopefully bi-monthly from next year).

Older and wiser with more knowing of who I am and what my strengths and weaknesses are… it became more important that the group succeed – for the right reasons. I knew I needed a community of women who were already secure within themselves to offer the safe space other women needed. They would support, not take away from. They would love even strangers – because they embody love already. I needed my sisters to do this with me and they are: Dianna LaneLinda van LaerTeoh Seok HeanJacqui Kay. I love each of them. And you will too. Come into circle with us. More here!
