1. Who are you?
My name is Chan Fun Shin, a registered counsellor with the Board of Counsellors Malaysia and a certified hypnotherapist who specializes in helping my clients with sexuality related issues. I am currently practising in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
I started my career as a mental health counsellor in the year 2012. My profession was to help people with life issues like stress, anxiety, emotional issues, addiction, etc. I started my journey as a sexuality counsellor two years after my practice and found passion in this topic.
2. Why do you what do you do?
It is undeniable that sex is an important part of our life. We were born with our body but no one taught us how to use it in sexual content. We were not thought how to express our sexuality positively. Sex has always been a taboo in the Asian content. A lot of people still have negative perceptions towards sex. Sex has been seen being dirty and sinful. Hence, most of us do not seek help.
I see a demand and decide to dedicate my life to contributing to society by providing sexuality education and counselling.
3. What do you stand for?
I believe everyone has the right to receive sexuality education and to enjoy consensual sexual pleasure.
4. What are your future plans?
To enhance my knowledge in sexuality counselling, I am currently doing my research for my PhD. With my knowledge gained from this journey, my plan is to train future sexuality educators and counsellors to extend my service and to provide awareness on this issue.
