About Your Instructors

Crackhouse Comedy Club

Week 1: Introduction & Persona + conflict

The course starts by looking at the different types of stand-up comedians, and studying what makes their comedic output unique. Participants will then be invited to explore what their unique perspective and experiences can offer an audience. Participants will learn how to derive comedy from truth and lived experiences.

Week 2: Joke writing fundamentals

Nobody can be taught how to be funny, but we can learn how to identify what is funny, and learn how to package it in a way that is easy for an audience to appreciate and relate to. Participants will look at how to create original comedy premises, and will be given the tools to pair them with original punchlines.

Week 3: Building a routine

Once you have written some jokes, you will want to put them together into a set. During this week, participants will perform their jokes to the group for the first time, and identify how to present them as a coherent and interesting routine. We will also address how strengthening the performer’s persona can help make routine-building easy.

Week 4: Performance & editing

It is not enough to be a good writer, a stand-up comedian also needs to be able to perform their material. We will look at how to edit your material so it is ready to be performed, and learn basic stagecraft that will help amplify your material, and help you perform with confidence and flair.

About Dr. Martha Tara Lee

Surrounded by friends who were sexually inhibited and struck by dire lack of positive conversations around sex and sexuality in Singapore, Dr. Martha Tara Lee set out to make a positive difference in embarking on her doctorate in human sexuality before launching Eros Coaching in 2009. Today, she remains dedicated to working with individuals and couples who wish to lead self-actualised and pleasure-filled lives.

She also holds certificates in counselling, coaching and sex therapy, and her fourth degree – a Masters in Counselling in May 2018. In practice for more than nine years, she is the only certified sexuality educator and certified sexuality educator supervisor by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) in Singapore.

Often cited in the media, Dr. Lee is the appointed Resident Sexologist for PinkLifestyle.com; as well appointed sex expert for Men’s Health Singapore, and Men’s Health Malaysia. She was recognised as one of ‘Top 50 Inspiring Women Under 40′ by Her World in July 2010, and one of ‘Top 100 Inspiring Women’ by CozyCot in March 2011.
