This course awards 64 AASECT CE credits. Upon successful completion, you are eligible to apply to become a Certified Sexologist with the American Board of Sexology (ABS).

This 14-session virtual programme is for professionals who wish to build a grounded, practical, inclusive, and culturally sensitive foundation in sexuality education and sexology.

Led by Dr Martha Tara Lee, the programme combines theory, facilitated discussion, reflection, case-based learning, peer practice, and triad work. It is designed for those who work, or intend to work, in counselling, psychology, healthcare, education, coaching, social services, and related helping professions.

You will explore the history and evolution of sexology; anatomy and physiology; sexual orientation, gender identity, expression, and sex characteristics; sexual health and wellness; communication; consent; trauma; fantasies; kink; pornography; STI prevention and contraception; infertility and assisted reproductive technologies; sexuality across the lifespan; relationships; couples and sex therapy; ethics; and professional practice.

This will be our 5th intake due to popular demand.

Detailed Programme Outline

Session 1: Introduction to Sexology & Asian Cultural Context
Thursday, 18 February 2027
This week covers the history and evolution of sexology, foundational theories of human sexuality, and the critical role of sexologists in society. Students will gain a solid understanding of the field, with special emphasis on Asian cultural nuances, social norms, taboos, and cultural sensitivity.

Session 2: Human Sexual Anatomy and Physiology
Thursday, 4 March 2027
This week dives into the biological foundations of human sexuality, including detailed study of reproductive anatomy, physiological sexual response, and common variations in sexual function. Students will enhance their ability to discuss anatomy confidently and normalise body diversity for clients.

Session 3: Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC)
Thursday, 18 March 2027
Students will explore the social and cultural aspects of gender identity, expression, sexual orientation, and sex characteristics, including lived experiences of LGBTQ+ communities. The session will highlight the importance of inclusive language and help students develop nuanced understanding to support diverse clients effectively.

Session 4: Sexual Health and Wellness
Thursday, 1 April 2027
This session focuses on broadening the conception of sexual wellness beyond dysfunction to include pleasure, satisfaction, whole-person wellness, and digital sexual lives. Students will learn strategies to promote sexual health and pleasure enhancement techniques for themselves and their clients.

Session 5: Communication Skills in Sexology
Thursday, 15 April 2027
Focusing on sexology-specific micro-skills, this week covers active listening, empathetic responses, managing silences, and non-verbal communication. Students will practise key communication techniques critical for building rapport and facilitating effective sexual health conversations.

Session 6: Consent, Boundaries, and Sexual Trauma
Thursday, 29 April 2027
Students will explore consent frameworks, boundary-setting, and ethical responses to sexual trauma, including exploitation and abuse. Emphasis is on recognising trauma disclosures and responding with sensitivity, applying trauma-informed practices in sexology contexts.

Session 7: Sexual Fantasies and Introduction to Kink
Thursday, 13 May 2027
This week normalises the exploration of sexual fantasies and introduces foundational kink concepts. Students will reflect on personal biases, learn how to create non-judgmental spaces, and discuss client-centred approaches to fantasy and kink exploration.

Session 9: Comprehensive Sexual Health: STIs, Contraception, and Informed Choices

This week covers clinical and psychoeducational aspects of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and contraception. Students learn evidence-based prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, while also addressing stigma and emotional challenges clients may face. The session also considers medication, alcohol, and substance use where relevant to sexual health and decision-making.

Session 10: Infertility, Assisted Reproductive Technologies, Pregnancy & Reproductive Transitions

Students explore the emotional and physical impacts of infertility, assisted reproductive technologies, pregnancy, and reproductive transitions. This session also examines how sexual identity can evolve through reproductive challenges, enhancing empathy and inclusive practice.

This comprehensive session discusses sexuality across the lifespan with a focus on aging and disability inclusion. It also explores non-monogamous and alternative relationship structures, providing ethical and practical guidance for diverse relationship frameworks.

Session 12: Couples Therapy and Sex Therapy
Thursday, 29 July 2027
Students will learn core principles and techniques of couples therapy and sex therapy, including assessment methods, treatment planning, and intervention strategies to address intimacy, communication, and sexual difficulties in couple dynamics.

Session 13: Ethics and Professionalism
Thursday, 12 August 2027
This session addresses the ethical frameworks governing sexology practice, including confidentiality, cultural competence, professional boundaries, technology and AI, online and social-media contexts, and the responsibilities of a sexologist in diverse clinical and community settings.

Session 14: Integration, Case Studies, Peer Teaching, and Wrap-Up
Thursday, 26 August 2027
The final session is dedicated to integrating learning through detailed case study discussions, peer teaching exercises, and reflective practice to build student confidence and readiness for professional application.

• Case studies and peer learning: Apply learning to real-world scenarios, receive feedback, and develop practical confidence.
• Direct learning with Dr Martha Tara Lee: Benefit from her experience as an educator, counsellor, coach, and clinical sexologist.
• East and West perspectives: Learn within a framework informed by Dr Martha’s training in the USA and Australia, and her upbringing and practice in Singapore.

⭐ Optional Add-On: Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR)

Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR) Sat 8 – Sun 9 Aug 2027 in Johor.
Add-on: S$500; Usual fee: S$900

SAR is a 14-hour experiential values, attitudes, and self-awareness training. It goes beyond learning facts and skills by helping professionals notice their own assumptions, emotional reactions, values, and blind spots around sexuality. This is especially important when supporting clients or students with sensitive topics, as it strengthens your capacity to stay present, non-judgmental, and ethically grounded in your work.

Course Completion Requirements

To successfully complete the programme, participants must:

1. Provide a personal statement outlining interest and objectives.
2. Attend all 14 live or recorded classes. If watching a class recording rather than attending live, answer three additional questions in the reflection form.
3. Complete a 90-minute group triad practice for every module and submit the linked reflection form.
4. Pass the Week 15 online final exam with a minimum score of 50%.
5. Complete the course feedback form.
6. Complete a one-hour one-to-one virtual Q&A integration session with Dr Martha Tara Lee.

This program meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 64 CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification. Completion of this program does not ensure or guarantee AASECT certification. 4. Possess good communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse populations.
5. Be committed to ethical and professional practice in sexology.
6. Be willing to engage in self-reflection and personal growth throughout the course.
7. Have access to a reliable internet connection and computer for online coursework.
8. Be available to commit to all 14 teaching modules, triad practice, reflection forms, and the online final exam.
