Video: Chakra Dance – Because Dance is Healing

Posted On: September 29, 2014

I am on a personal retreat and one of the intentions was to do one dance per chakra.

Movement is healing.

Movement is energy.

Movement is life.

The intention to clear one’s chakra through movement is definitely healing as well.

The Back Story

Because I didn’t begin shooting the day I arrived, I knew I had to do at least two dances in a day. Once I started recording, I had other issues (camera being moved; not focused; too much out of frame; only able to dance at certain hours when there is the best natural light) so I had re-record most of the dances – two or three in one day.

I confess I am an amateur dancer, though I took some dance classes more than 10 years ago (hip hop, salsa, belly dance, exotice dance, pole dance – all at basic levels). My favourite movement class is, however, 5 Rhythms but the teacher is no longer in Singapore. I grieved over her departure from Singapore for months, and there hasn’t been a free-form movement class I like quite as much.

I know you probably won’t have the patience to watch each of the seven dances as I move through each chakra, so I edited them down to under one minute.

My intention is for you to:

  • Realise movement as a healing tool
  • Acknowledge that if I can do this, so can you!
  • Recognise the importance of enjoying your body
  • See how being comfortable with your body is part of your sexuality
  • Inspire you to get moving!

Brief Introduction to the Chakras

Chakras are also known as energy centres. Simply put, if these energy centres are clear, then energy can flow smoothly and easily within our bodies. One can clear these points through intention. Movement is also another way.

7th Chakra – Sahasrara (White). Where – Crown of head.
