Are you an Eco Sexual?

Are you an Eco SexualThis article was first published for PinkLifestyle.com here.

Back in 2014, I ran a Eco Sex campaign.

It has been many years since and a lot of the content is just as relevant as back then.

Therefore, I am resharing some of the information here:

First things, first: What is an Ecosexual?

Terms evolved as people and culture evolve. There is no shame if you never heard of ecosexuality or ecosexuals and don’t identify as one.

An Ecosexual refers to a person, in a dating or relationship situation, that is environmentally and socially conscious.

In other words, an Ecosexual is a person who has a very strong interest in environmental issues, affecting their lifestyle and choice of romantic partner.

They might be:

  • Choosing pesticide free foods and chemical free alternatives to medicines and household products.
  • Purchasing organic items and would be seen driving a hybrid car.
  • Living green is the most important part of their lives – their love life is no exception
  • A vegetarians, or at the very least organic and kosher consumers.
  • Very health conscious and desire to make a difference in the world through their lifestyle.

Some of the things you might like to look into to being your eco-conscious lifestyle are here:

  1. Healthy Mattresses: You spend a third of your life on a mattress. There are a host of options available these days made from natural materials like rubber, horsehair, wool, natural foam and latex. Why: Old-style spring mattresses typically contain formaldehyde and PBDEs (banned in Europe), which off-gas while you sleep. Synthetic materials are also prone to mold and mildew formation, which can compromise your immune system.
  2. Bedsheets: Organic cotton and bamboo are excellent alternatives to sleeping and breathing in pesticide-laden linens.
  3. Clothes: There are all kinds of sexy options such as bamboo or organic cotton.
  4. Candles: If you want to use scented candles to set the mood, make sure they are made of products such as soy. Soy candles are made from eco-friendly products and do not emit carbon monoxide.
  5. Perfumes: Most perfumes are derived from petroleum, and some contain potential neurotoxins. Opt for DIY alternatives made from organic essential oils. Vanilla, rose and cinnamon turn guys on; the ladies dig vetiver and cedarwood.
  6. Rechargeable sex toys: Rather than purchase battery-operated sex toys whcih actually contain toxic and in some cases flammable materials. Batteries require lots of energy to manufacture, which means high greenhouse gas emissions.
  7. Medical-grade silicon sex toys: Medial-grade silicon are regulated by the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health to ensure that the silicone going into your body doesn’t negatively affect your health. These are inert materials that won’t leak chemicals or harbor bacteria (as long as you’re washing your toys correctly).

PS The next time you consider purchasing a sex toy, insist on only medical-grade silicon toys! This is why I don’t like food-grade silicon toys – I won’t even think about using them anymore! I only have one body and I deserve the best. So do you!

PPS Did you know that www.Horny.sg has a e-waste program where when you surrender your old sex toys, they will not only recycle it safely and properly but also give you a discount voucher for it? Ask them about it!
