Eros – The Divine Energy Behind My Mission

Posted On: March 23, 2025

When I founded Eros Coaching in 2009, the name wasn’t a casual choice—it was a declaration of purpose. “Eros” is a Greek word that means “passionate desire” or “sexual desire,” aligning perfectly with my counseling practice’s focus on relationships and sexuality in Singapore.

AI's Responses to My Questions on Eros (And More!)The Many Dimensions of Eros

In Greek mythology, Eros is the god of love, passion, and fertility—the son of Aphrodite, goddess of love, beauty, and desire. As one of the primordial forces, Eros was considered essential to the creation of the cosmos, symbolizing the fundamental energy that brings life into being.

Beyond mythology, Eros carries profound meaning in psychology. In Freudian theory, Eros represents the life instinct, encompassing not just sexual drives but also the will to live—the fundamental impulses for connection, pleasure, and growth.

My fascination with Greek and Roman mythology began long before my professional career. These ancient stories captured my imagination because they explore the full spectrum of human experience through archetypal characters that still resonate today. The mythology of Eros particularly stood out because it acknowledges desire as a divine force rather than something to be feared or suppressed.

In Greek philosophy, especially through Plato’s writings, Eros evolved from simply physical desire to a yearning for beauty, truth, and goodness. This expansion mirrors my approach to sexuality—seeing it as a pathway not just to physical pleasure but to deeper self-knowledge, authentic connection, and even spiritual growth.

From Eros Evolution to Eros Matters

In 2011, I launched my first podcast, Eros Evolution. The name reflected my core belief that our relationship with sexuality isn’t static—it evolves throughout our lifetime, shaped by our experiences, relationships, and cultural context.

As the only certified sexuality educator by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) in Southeast Asia since 2011, I felt a responsibility to create accessible content that reached beyond my clinical practice. This podcast explored how our understanding of sexuality develops across different life stages, from cultural influences to relationship transformations.

Now, I’m excited to introduce my newest podcast venture: Eros Matters. This podcast makes an unapologetic declaration—sexual well-being isn’t peripheral; it matters deeply to our overall health, relationships, and quality of life.

A New Format for Busy Lives

Eros Matters represents an evolution in format as well as content. Each episode runs just 5-10 minutes—concise, focused conversations designed for today’s busy listeners. Rather than lengthy interviews, these bite-sized episodes deliver practical insights through an Asian lens, bringing cultural context to discussions of intimacy and relationships.

As an award-winning relationship counselor and clinical sexologist, I bring both professional expertise and cultural understanding to these conversations. Drawing from over 15 years of working with couples and individuals, I tackle everything from rekindling passion to navigating cultural perspectives on intimacy.

The podcast’s brief format doesn’t sacrifice depth. Instead, it distills essential wisdom into actionable guidance. Whether you’re seeking better communication, deeper connections, or insights about sexual well-being, each episode offers practical strategies and authentic dialogue.

Beyond Taboos: A Journey of Professional Growth

My professional journey hasn’t been without challenges. When I began my career as a sexologist in 2009, discussing sexuality openly in Singapore and throughout Asia faced significant cultural barriers. However, I believed then—as I do now—that compassionate, accurate education about sexuality is essential for individual well-being and healthy relationships.

The recognition I’ve received throughout my career affirms the importance of this work. Being named one of the ‘Top 50 Inspiring Women under 40’ by Her World in 2010, one of the ‘Top 100 Inspiring Women’ by CozyCot in 2011, and one of the Global Women of Influence in 2024 has provided platforms to reach more people with messages of sexual positivity.

More recently, Eros Coaching won the Most Supportive Relationship Coach 2025 award at the Singapore Business Awards. These recognitions reflect not just personal achievement but a growing acknowledgment that sexual well-being deserves professional attention. For more on my life purpose, click here.

Publications as Milestones

Each of my published books marks a significant milestone in my mission to normalize conversations about sexuality:

  • Love, Sex and Everything In-Between (2013)
  • Orgasmic Yoga: Masturbation, Meditation and Everything In-Between (2015)
  • From Princess to Queen: Heartbreaks, Heartgasms and Everything In-Between (2017)
  • {Un}Inhibited (2019)

These publications document my ongoing commitment to destigmatizing sexuality through education and open dialogue.

Why Eros Matters Now

Eros Matters serves a crucial purpose in my broader educational mission. While my clinical practice allows for deep, personalized work with individuals and couples, this podcast creates opportunities for wider reach with a format that respects your time.

The podcast offers several unique advantages:

  1. Accessibility – Brief episodes fit easily into busy schedules
  2. Cultural relevance – Discussions through an Asian lens provide cultural context often missing from Western-centric content
  3. Practical focus – Each episode delivers actionable guidance, not just theory
  4. Destigmatization – Regular, matter-of-fact discussions about sexuality help normalize these conversations

As the resident sexologist for organizations including the Singapore Cancer Society, Virtus Fertility Centre, and platforms like OfNoah.sg and OfZoey.sg, I bring diverse perspectives to these discussions. These partnerships have reinforced my understanding that sexual well-being connects with multiple dimensions of health and happiness.
