This is why I Used to Get Upset with my Mom…

This is why I Used to Get Upset with my Mom...I used to get upset with my mom when I saw her giving up her seat on public transport. The irony would strike me: an elderly and unwell person giving up her seat to an even more elderly person.

What would not be obvious to outsiders was that my mom was battling stage four breast cancer. My mom had a history of losing her balance and falling down, so I would be worried, angry, and helpless all at the same time when she would do that.

I would feel so upset that younger and healthier-looking people would ignore the very people my mom was giving up her seat for. I would worry about her doing this when I wasn’t around to help her if something happened.

Recently all these memories came back to me as I am starting to experience unexplained aches in my body especially around my joints. Would I give up my seat for an older person? Would I give up my seat if I was carrying many things which I often found myself doing? Would I help others if I was going through cancer like my mom did?

The answer was yes.

Like my parents, I’ve always wanted to help others. Rather than point fingers, I rather do what I can. And it’s not just me. My siblings are real softies.

I’m my parents’ daughter and I’m so proud to come from them.
