Healthy boundaries make for healthy relationships and COVID 19 has made maintaining good boundaries even more important.

At one time or another we’ve all said yes when we wanted to say no, no when we wanted to say yes, and maybe when we really didn’t mean it. In one way or another we’ve pushed someone’s boundaries, invaded their personal space or had ours invaded. We’ve experienced conversations or touch we didn’t want or gone in for some kind of touch without waiting, or accepted a lukewarm yes. Whether you’ve been taught to go against your own boundaries in order to please others or to push hard for what you want, or a mix of both, this online workshop is a place to explore together how we each got to where we are today with boundaries and how to get to a better place in how we set and receive boundaries.

During this workshop we’ll:

  • Talk about what a boundary is and where we usually set them versus where we would like to set them
  • Learn how to say “no” clearly and how to respond to hearing one
  • Learn how to explore safely using negotiation, changing our ‘yes’ to a ‘no’ when needed, while giving and getting feedback
  • Explore cultural differences in what looks and feels like a healthy boundary
  • Learn how to deal with someone who doesn’t respect our boundaries
  • Learn more about fight, flight, freeze and fawn responses in yourself and others
  • Have opportunities to practice and discuss boundary setting with other participants

This is a practical class where we work with actual situations sharing useful tools for bettering our boundaries and how well we perceive and support the boundaries of others.

There will be several break outs into smaller groups for discussion and practice. You’ll be amazed what comes up that you didn’t even expect and how much you can learn about yourself, your boundary style and your self talk when negotiating in real time with others.

This workshop is being offered through Sex Positive World to members of all sex positive chapters in Singapore and to anyone interested in learning more about consent and boundaries. Come enjoy this opportunity to meet people from around the world who care about healthy boundaries!

Testimonial:

“Just say “No.”  In our relationships with partners, family members, friends, etc., it’s easy to be agreeable and say “Yes.”  But it does not meet our needs or wants. This can lead to pent-up anger, frustration, and even avoidance of interacting with the other parties down the road.

I am glad that the “Awesome Boundaries” workshop provides useful learning points and role-playing activities that help me better understand my needs and wants and communicate them to others in a healthier way.

Learning to set boundaries is important in both personal and professional relationships!  Do come to learn more…” – Zeb, Male, Chinese, 45, Professional, 7 July 2024

“Thinking back on my life, there were countless occasions where I have let things slide and didn’t or couldn’t stand my ground. Everytime this happens, I think I lose a little bit of respect for myself.

“Awesome Boundaries” taught me how you can tune into your body to find out how you really feel about an activity. I also learnt how to say “no” if someone proposes something, and how to negotiate if the situation calls for it. Now I feel more confident I will be able to enforce my own boundaries in any given situation.” Chang, Female, 39, Professional, 7 July 2024

“This is actually the second time I’m attending this workshop. I was blown away the first time how good the session was. And I have attended many trainings around consent and boundaries as a sexologist. I was not prepared for the width and depth of what was covered, and how it brought up so many flashbacks and memories. Attending it a second time, I realise there were still things that came up and resonated with me. I think every single person who interacts with people should attend this training, and by that, I mean everybody!

The world would be a better place if we attended this training and applied what we learned. It’s a practice and like any muscle, we get better and stronger with practice. I’m really happy to bring this training to Singapore and really proud of everybody who showed up.” – Relationship Counselor and Clinical Sexologist Dr Martha Tara Lee of ErosCoaching.com

“Boundary and consent are two essential concepts in intimacy and sexual wellness. However, many of us have not fully embraced or practiced them.
This workshop encouraged us to respect ourselves by setting boundaries and seeking mutual consent, thereby enhancing our overall well-being in various aspects of life.
The two insightful and wonderful hosts facilitated the group discussions professionally and effectively, resulting in impactful learning and heightened awareness. The outcome was a higher level of self-awareness!
If you want to love yourself more, don’t miss this opportunity!” – Krish Phua, 50s
