Welcome to Love, Sex, and Everything in Between! My name is Martha. I am a sexologist and I am playing Queen of the Jungle. So, what’s the message for you this week?
My mom has stage IV breast cancer, and the cancer has spread beyond her breast into her lungs, into her bones. When I shared this with my close friends, they tend to say things along the lines of “I hope she gets well soon,” “Let’s hope she makes a speedy recovery.”
Perhaps they mean to comfort me, but what if the words of kindness actually is making me feel worse, because I know that there is no pill or sudden cure to her condition, that her best bet is really to manage her condition – to accept it, to embrace it.
Do you know of people around you who have health challenges and that they are finding it difficult to strive in their lives? What if these challenges happen to you? What kind of advice would you be able to give your friends and what kind of advice would you think you perhaps, need to be hearing for yourself?
There are also people who have difficulties with accepting the changes that happen as we get older. Some people actually consider getting old a form of disability. You realize that the more that we can embrace all that we are including the challenges that we face within our bodies, the better we are able to thrive.
This is your challenge this week. Look at the ways in which you can embrace your body so that you can begin to thrive. And by this, it also means exploring what would happen if you had physical challenges and what would happen to you as you get older, what about the area of your sexuality?
Begin thinking about what would happen if you get older, if you have health conditions and challenges, what will happen to your sexuality then? Embrace your body.
