“I met with Martha to receive 1:1 supervision and training: “Working with People with Vaginismus”. Martha was a wealth of information about the topic of Vaginismus and really intimately highlighted the unique struggles of the members of this community and how that impacts how they may present in sessions.

Martha has created a unique vaginal training program that she encourages clinicians to make their own. In my practice, I regularly pull from her teachings while also feeling like there is enough flexibility in the material and her methods to tweak it to fit my clients’ individual needs and circumstances.

In my counseling practice, I have had multiple clients with Vaginismus or other pelvic pain issues reach out to me to assist in their healing journeys. It is not uncommon that for many of these clients, our sessions are the first time they’re getting exposed to dilators/vaginal trainers. For many others though, they have often been in pelvic pt/physio or have worked with a sex therapist and have found their experiences to be overly clinical or too intimidating.

Thoughtfully and intentionally incorporating this knowledge into my practice as a counselor has helped me to support my clients in reducing their overall fear of insertion, successfully creating an environment of safety with themselves and/or their partners, feeling more empowered and informed with their sexual health, and being better able to accept the help of other community resources more readily.

About Dr. Martha Tara Lee

Dr. Martha Tara Lee has been a passionate advocate for positive sexuality since 2007.
