Unpacking the Surprising Statistics from Durex Malaysia's Sexual Health Survey

As a Relationship Counselor and Clinical Sexologist, I am always interested in new research and insights into sexual health and wellness. That’s why I was particularly intrigued by the recent survey conducted by Durex Malaysia, which revealed some surprising statistics about Malaysian youths’ sexual health and perceptions.

Here are some of the key findings from the survey:

  • 35.4% of Malaysian youth have had sexual intercourse, a significant increase from the figure of 18.8% in 2016.
  • 40% of respondents reported feeling pressured to have sex, while 31% relied on online articles, movies, or videos to learn about sex.
  • 35% of respondents believed that using two condoms at the same time is better than one, while 23% thought that HIV can be transmitted through a toilet seat.
  • 41% believed that masturbation is bad for health, and almost 40% believed the myth that STIs are only transmitted through penetrative sex.

These statistics highlight the urgent need for comprehensive sexual education and awareness campaigns in Malaysia. As a sexologist, I am committed to helping individuals and couples navigate these issues with confidence and knowledge.

If you have concerns about your sexual health or wellness, there are resources available to you. Here are some options:

  • Seek out a qualified sexologist or therapist who can provide personalized support and guidance. As a Relationship Counselor and Clinical Sexologist myself, I am available to help you navigate any issues you may be facing.
Check out online resources such as Scarleteen or Planned Parenthood for accurate information about sexual health and wellness.
  • Talk to your healthcare provider about any questions or concerns you may have about your sexual health.

Together, we can work towards a healthier and happier future.
